Nickerson High School had the honor to have Alexis Smith, Miss Kansas 2024, present to our student body about abusive and unhealthy relationships. Alexis' community service initiative is Respect Reclaimed: Advocating for Healthy Relationships, and she partners with the Wichita Family Crisis Center and the One Love Foundation to educate individuals on recognizing signs of abuse and how important healthy relationships are.

Two USD 309 Schools Receive Statewide Recognition
The Challenge Award recognizes schools for outstanding achievement and uncommon accomplishments of students based on the Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) results in math and reading. Both Nickerson Elementary and Reno Valley Middle Schools received this award this week.

Nickerson High School has been recognized as a 2025 All-Star High School! Students at these high schools receive dedicated support in completing college and/or job applications, seeking financial aid, and celebrating all postsecondary pathways. This annual initiative fosters a lasting college-going culture, empowering the school community to champion students' futures!

To avoid dangerously low windchills in the morning and to provide daylight for drivers traveling on county roads, Nickerson-South Hutchinson Schools will have a two-hour late start tomorrow, Thursday, February 20, 2025. Buses, building access, and classes will all be delayed two hours. The Daycares will be open at the regular time, but there will be no PreK-3 classes tomorrow.
With the recent weather-induced school cancellations, the Nickerson School District will need to make a few adjustments to our attendance calendar to ensure we meet the state-required hours for this school year. All previously scheduled Early Release Days will be converted to full attendance days. Those dates included:
- Feb 21
- March 14
- April 17
- May 2
Instead of a 12:40 release, each of these days will be a regular 3:25 release.
Due to deteriorating road conditions and windchills projected to be in the -25 range, Nickerson-South Hutchinson schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 19, 2025. All activities are canceled, and the Daycares will also be closed.
Due to the projected winter storm, Nickerson-South Hutchinson Schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, February 18, 2025. The Daycares will be open.
Nickerson-South Hutchinson schools will be closed today, Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Due to the forecasted bitterly cold windchills for the morning, Nickerson-South Hutchinson will start two hours late tomorrow, January 21st, 2025.
With the additional perception this afternoon and what is projected overnight, travel conditions in the morning will undoubtedly be more dangerous than they are currently. Nickerson-South Hutchinson Schools will be closed on Friday, January 10, 2025. This will include all activities as well.
With the continued poor road conditions and the forecasted low of 1 degree tonight, which will refreeze all that thawed out today, Nickerson-South Hutchinson Schools will again be closed tomorrow.
With existing road conditions still dangerous, there will be no school tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan 7, 2025, for USD 309 Nickerson-South Hutchinson schools. This will include Daycare and all activities.
Due to weather conditions, forecasted snowfall, and wind chills for the morning, Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 will not have school on Monday, January 6, 2025. The Daycares will also be closed.
All school activities are canceled.

GraceMed is a non-profit organization based in Wichita and has provided services in our district for several years. Their Extended Care Permit hygienists will be coming to provide dental screenings, cleanings, fluoride varnish and sealants. All children are eligible for these services. If you already have a dental home, please continue to see your dentist for regular cleanings and check-ups! If your child is seen for any services, you will receive a report stating what services were provided.
Dental Screening:
To comply with Kansas State Statute 72‐5201, school children should receive annual school‐based dental screenings. ALL SHES, NES, & RVMS students will be seen for a dental screening. If you don’t want your child to be seen an opt-out is required.
Dates for the services:
Monday, January 23rd at SHES (complete form by 1/16/23)
Tuesday, January 24th at NES (NHS students can be transported to NES if they would like to receive services) (complete form by 1/17/23)
Friday, January 27th at RVMS (complete form by 1/20/23)
